Streamlining Language Innovation

OUR STORY

You know that feeling when you’re so excited about something you can’t sleep? Time feels like it’s moving slower than ever? Your mind is racing with endless ideas, picturing the future, and more? Our founder, Patrick Gaston, felt that for years. His excitement was language – he would entertain the biggest ideas in linguistics and dream of making a change in the field.
While pursuing his undergraduate degree in linguistics at Stony Brook University in New York, he found himself dealing with, and working through, personal issues through language – creating his own language as a vehicle to deal with life after the military. As U.S. Army veteran, transitioning straight into academia where no one could relate to any experiences of the past few years posed its challenges.
Patrick found solace in creating languages – getting lost in the intricacies of it all and creating a world where things made sense to him in a language that he could truly express himself without the stigma of society.
In his creation endeavor, he started to meet more of the community and realized how important language creation truly was for thousands of individuals around the world. After hearing that other people helped themselves through creating art through language, he realized the impact it could have if there was more support and tools for the community.
In 2016, he dedicated his time to planning a completely new way to support this global community and help build software applications for the underrepresented language communities – from language creators to those who speak endangered languages around the world that are losing their voice. From there, Conlangio Labs was created.

OUR MISSION

Our mission at Conlangio is to aid in the construction and promotion of invented languages to create more engaging, inspiring experiences through art.

Conlangio in time

From the beginning

Research and Development Started

Both target audience and Linguistic research was conducted to begin the Conlang.io design process. General research was gathered from forums, blogs, and multiple other resources to gauge the improvements that could be made to the constructed language process. Linguistic research was done to identify and define a paradigm for constructing languages to make the process more streamlined while remaining flexible enough to be as creative as a process as possible.
